Tired of Snow

Ice fishing continued....

It is cold, windy and close to home. Thank goodness. We are on a neighbours pond. They caught 4 fish. Kirk got all the fish because no one else wanted to clean them. Fish dinner tonight.

Ice fishing must be a very popular topic, as the video I posted already has 38 views in under 18 hours. Now if I could get subscribers, I could make money at this. Ya, right.

Toronto - I lived there once

For my friends in the south.... Yes, Toronto gets snow. But it doesn't last long. They have an army of people and equipment for snow-removal. I'm surprised the snow gets to hit the ground.

Petey lived through storm!

These photos taken during the thunderstorm. Too bad I don't have a video camera. My poor little dog dislikes thunder (I don't like it either because it means lightning hit somewhere) . His beanie-babe bird, which he holds in this mouth, is his best friend during the whole ordeal. As you can see Shadow (the black dog) doesn't give two hoots on what is happening.

Kirk and I try to calm him down but it is easier to wait out the storm.

Gee...It's Hot!

I use to like the heat. Not sure if this is an age issue or not but, it is darn hot here.

The grass is brown. Will not be driving my favorite ride (lawnmower) in the near future. The weeds are the only things that give any colour and yet they are not growing real fast.

I'm sure I mentioned this last year and I'll say it again. "It is hotter here than Florida."

Sure, we are suppose to get some rain this evening. Every other rain forecast has missed us so we will wait and see.

Better get back to cutting aluminum. Break is over.

Dry Clyde, Dry Forest

The comment we made regularly while living in Clyde NC - "we live in dry Clyde". We said this for two reasons. The area would not sell alcohol and the rain always went around us.

For days now we have been waiting for some rain. The forecast called for rain. Well it did. But, not on our property. I was returning home from Watford which is only 20 minutes south of us. I drove through a thunderstorm that made me nervous with a downpour of rain that almost caused me to stop because I couldn't see. There are huge puddles on the side of the road in the town of Forest which is only 1 mile away from our home. I get to the house and it is dry as a bone. Go figure.

I will have to water my sad looking tomato plants. I better invest in a water hose.

Today is a Holiday?

Victoria Day. It has finally warmed up to the temperature
fore casted for all weekend. Something definitely run a muck with the forecasters.

We have the bender up and working. Actually it is Kirk that does the working part. It takes a fair amount of strength to pull the handle around to get the bend in the metal. He does have a set up to use mechanical power to bend the metal but it takes too long to set up and adjust. So, it is back to "man power".

I've been busy cutting the pieces needed and there are a lot of pieces.

I did start the day out at Tree-Mendus hoeing while
waiting for any call from the sales staff should they need assistance in loading plants in a customers vehicle.
The reinforcements arrived so I decided I was better needed at home.
It was just as well. My back was killing me. Out of practice or shape, which ever or both. (The slob in me is coming out. We match.)

When I arrived home I did announce to Kirk that cutting metal was looking and feeling really good!

Right now, I'm cooking up a pot of gumbo (one of Kirk's favorite dishes) soon to be set on simmer and I'll get back at it.

Hello North Carolina

Missing North Carolina

We just got an email from our "use to be neighbor". She is talking about the blooms on the Dogwood, Pear and Weeping Cherry trees plus the flowers. It is suppose to go down to 40 there this weekend. It is breaking my heart.

Well, give my head a shake. We can't have it both ways so get over it.
Bright side - we don't have to buy ice cubes to keep the beer cold.

Jack Frost Returns

Our new Hot Tub arrived yesterday as the temperature was falling. Lucky for Kirk, the weather was nice when he was preparing the space for it. The electrician said he would hook it up today but it is so cold and windy, I'm sure he will wait until it warms up. According to the forecast, it may be the middle of next before we get this thing up and running.

Well, at least it is here and we have an instruction video to watch. They forgot the owners manual, so Kirk doesn't have any reading material on it yet. He likes reading material.

Soaking up the Sun

It was sunny with a slight breeze and 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Peaty took advantage of the outdoors. He did not want to come into the house.

He just lay on the deck soaking up the sun.

I left the door open, just in case he changed his mind.

I miss the hot tub. It was a perfect day to hot tub. I think Peaty misses the hot tub too, as that is when he usually would lay on the deck.

Sticking together

It seems we are lucky. The sever weather alert was cancelled yesterday and the snow storm we got was just a regular snow storm.

Kirk is out battling the regular snow drifts in the driveway. If the wind would just die down, he might win this battle. In the mean time, I'm just staying put in the house.

It also seems, the flakes game-plan is working.

Snow Storm

Yes, we now have snow! There is more to come. Kirk gave me the forecast.

Right now, Kirk is shovelling snow very slowly. I warned him to take his time and not to exert himself. (the heart situation is always on my mind)

In the mean time, I have been cooking up a storm. It serves two purposes; heats the house and more food than we can eat. The dehydrator is a great heat source. Kirk now has bags of venison jerky. The oven is the best heat source. Baking tuna casseroles and bread. (items on my menu) Stove top is good too. Venison stew is a hit.

I think I'm gaining weight. I should be the one shovelling snow but Kirk says he needs the exercise. Yes and no. I did get plenty of exercise when working at IGA. Now, getting dressed to go outside and undressed to go inside is the chore. Putting boots on and off wear me out. I think we should put a chair in the garage just for boot removal while wearing 5 layers of clothing.

We are glad that we don't have to go anywhere. Kirk's trip to the shop, over a few snow drifts, is as far as he wants to go and I only go there when he calls for help or to take the dogs out which are real short and fast trips.

Ah, winter in Canada, got to love it. Can't leave it.

Positive side of winter

It is so beautiful.

This picture was taken this morning, sitting in the warmth of the living-room.

Looking out, enjoying the fact, I can stay home.

I may not like the cold.

We do like the view.

Only the weather

It is going to get cold. Sure it is raining today but the forecast is not looking good for two people from the south.

Moving from Florida, it took me two years to get adjusted to the NC weather and I guess it is going to take another two years to get adjusted to Ontario weather.

In my opinion, Florida only has one thing going for it, the heat. That is the only thing I miss from Florida. NC has more distinct four seasons, similar to Ontario, however less extreme. I miss a lot more of NC.

If and when I get acclimatized, things should be fine.

We're having a heat wave!

We are in Canada. (Ok, you know that)It is November. (Ok, you know that too)
It is 60 degrees Fahrenheit. (Surprise)
Kirk has gone FISHING! (Surprise again)
The salmon is running?

Kirk asked me this morning "How is your cold?"
My reply "The best cold I've ever had. It just wants to hang around and mess up my head."
Actually, I think Kirk wanted me to go fishing too. I just couldn't do it.

He worked like a (Canadian) beaver all weekend so he felt justified to take off on such a lovely day. I don't blame him he is retired. (You know what I mean.)

Sticking to the necessities, I completed some household chores ran a few errands and back to my rest and orange juice while waiting to see if I'm cooking fish this evening. (Only worthy results will be photographed.)
